Fuel leak, and questions

I found a fuel leak on this:

Its leaking from the metal part on that plastic elbow. Is that a fuel pressure sensor or something? Im new to powerstrokes, my only diesel knowledge is from the idi's.

And now for my questions:
When I go to start my truck, warm or cold, the rpm's jump up and down, and then smooths out, usually when I give it some throttle, or just on its own. When the motors warm, if it hasnt sat for too long, I can crank it over just a second longer, almost to the point of over starting it, and it will start up and idle smooth. Im assuming that is because of the fuel leak I found, or other leaks causing it to suck in air, and or lose pressure?

When you replace the accelerator position sensor on the pedal, do you have to replace the pedal too? Or just the sensor?

Thanks for any help or answers
*Edit: pictures should be fixed*

Unfortunately I can't see your pictures, my computer won't bring them up.

As for the speed variation at cold startup, that is referred to as the romps. A variety of things can cause that, but usually it's from the oil being too thick. Some folks run 5w-40 synthetic and solves that issue.

Have you changed the oil recently?

What kind of oil is in it now?

Pic links are to a gmail site, and are no good.

What year truck? Automatic or manual transmission?

No need to replace the pedal when replacing the sensor.

Its a 97, 5spd manual. I haven't changed the oil yet, it still seemed good, but with my next payday, I'm going to change the oil and do some other small things

Thank you for that, I wasn't sure if the sensor was calibrated to a specific pedal or what

Pics are smaller than the thumbnails, but I think I see what you're referring to. It's the sensor coming out of the driver's side of the fuel bowl, one-wire connector? That's your fuel filter warning sensor. Common leaker. You can replace it, or just remove it and put a 1/8" NPT plug in its place. It has no connection to engine operation, it only turns on the FUEL FILTER light on the dash. If you inspect/replace the fuel filter as needed, you don't need the sensor. Just remember it's NPT, so treat it like a pipe joint.

DO NOT over-tighten the sensor or replacement pipe plug! Doing so will cause the FPR housing to crack. Its not cheap to replace. Use some good thread tape like Blue Monster.
