source of metal flakes and rust on F and E series pre 09 vehicles

this metal flakes and rust question is frequently asked and I cane across this fact.

so according to various reports...there is a class action law suit against ford for knowingly selling F and E series vehicles with gas tanks that are defective in that the lining will fail over time and release metal flakes and rust into the fuel system. effects up to and including 09's.......many of which have been plauged with fuel pump and injector failures related to metal flakes and rust.

related is a revision to the primary filter with the addition of an o ring that provides a better seal internally......apparently....the metal flakes were getting thru the un revised filters that did not have the additional o ring .

I thought these older trucks had plastic tanks?
My 99 f250 sure did. Although I did buy it used in 2004 or so.

Interesting , Ford had never heard of it happening when I wrote them about my truck.
Do you know where I can find more info?
Thanks

Yes, that's a typo. There are dozens or references to this law suit.

But from a technical perspective which is where we want to be since we do not like to get into politics, legal , and related ....

It kinda spins my head that cases of failed injectors and high pressure fuel pumps were being attributed to metal flakes and corrosion due to the lack of many or if the Maint paper trail was good then pull the gas tank and if metal was found blame the gas station and have insurance companies get involved.

To be honest ..,,while I feel for th evictions and I was motivated enough by the dirty fuel scare to install an airdog at a cost of 600 bucks, I am resting a little easier knowing that this lining problem does not effect 2010 tanks unless some genius installed an 09 or erLier tank in my truck.

What gets me is that in the cases of

This is a known problem with chassis cab trucks that had the aft metal tanks. Pickup truck tanks were plastic with no issues.

I have never seen or read of a pickup truck plastic tank causing an issue. Seen many C&C trucks with the delamination issue.
