Odd christmas gifts,He has the fever.

Now most young adult sons would ask for motorbikes or guitars like my other son but my oldest wants metal brake, shrinking disc, clecos, etc. He has caught the fever we all share with these trucks. When they get a break in their school semester I would love to send him someplace to really expand his skills. I think he will go into fabrication as his career. Hi, i can't wait until my kids are a little older to work with them in the garage. If you are looking for ideas, have a look see at Pro Shaper Sheet Metal LLC Home - Pro Shaper Sheet Metal LLC. I've bought some of his tools and DVDs. I've always wanted to attend his class for training. Plus if your son is under 16 he can attend for free with you.

There is a local (to me) fabrication shop that hires young guys all the time as apprentices. The owner brings them in to do the grunt work and then as their drive and skills dictate, he will challenge them with more complex work. They earn a wage and they learn many skills. I would look around your area to see if there are any such shops near you...the guys who own these shops would love to bring in a young man like yours to learn the trade. As for the one day workshops, IMO they are not worth the money...good entertainment but not a skill building experience.

Check your local Community College and see if they offer classes?

Oh i see he is east coast now. As for the fab shops locally some of them told me they dont do apprentice positions any longer because of insurance but they would hire when they needed a man. I will check with more of them as time allows.Body shops just dont do that work any more and restoration shops seem to be scarce or one man operations here.
