U joints fell out goin 80, but why is the drain pan leaking?
Mornin guys,
Im currently in a gas station parkin lot sittin in my truck ontop of a puddle of trans fluid because my u joint caps came off goin 80 down the highway. When i pulled over i noticed the transmission was leaking. I put putted along goin about 5 miles an hour trying to keep the vibrations to a minimum till i came across the next gas station. After further inspection, of course, i saw the caps off of the u joints, but i notice a leak that seens to be coming from my drain pan, like the gasket isnt sealing off. Ive been sitting here for about 2 hours waiting on the tow truck and have made a puddle about 4-5 wide. Im just trying to see if anyone can tell me why im losing trans fluid. I dont understand what the u joints busting out has to do with the transmission. Because where to slip yoke goes in, is dry. Id love any advice possible. Ive had tons of luck off of this website with the '72 3/4 ton and '81 F100 i had in the past. Im hopin you guys over on the 10th gen forums are just as knowledgeable and helpful. But im open to any advice! Thanks in Advance!

I got the part number from ford and it is:
E8TZ-7A039-J
But the one on that website is "7A040" i believe. And it says it has two threaded holed for bosses shifter (1980 and up) but i have no idea what that is. It says its compatible with the 4R70W. Is this the right part??
Heres the crack:

Anything i should know about to transfer case removal process? I have a haynes book, but this is my first 4x4 truck so its a new experience, even though i know alot about how they work and what they do, ive never worked around one before.

I have not worked on a t-case so I don't know any tricks. I do like my chilton manual I think they are better than Haynes. just my preference.
go to HTTP://WWW.ETIS.FORD.Com and under "vehicle" enter the vin
that will pull up the build sheet for your rig. you will see what trans you have among other options when the truck was built. it will also show what assy plant your rig was built at.
best of luck,
Wayne
