U joints fell out goin 80, but why is the drain pan leaking?

Mornin guys,
Im currently in a gas station parkin lot sittin in my truck ontop of a puddle of trans fluid because my u joint caps came off goin 80 down the highway. When i pulled over i noticed the transmission was leaking. I put putted along goin about 5 miles an hour trying to keep the vibrations to a minimum till i came across the next gas station. After further inspection, of course, i saw the caps off of the u joints, but i notice a leak that seens to be coming from my drain pan, like the gasket isnt sealing off. Ive been sitting here for about 2 hours waiting on the tow truck and have made a puddle about 4-5 wide. Im just trying to see if anyone can tell me why im losing trans fluid. I dont understand what the u joints busting out has to do with the transmission. Because where to slip yoke goes in, is dry. Id love any advice possible. Ive had tons of luck off of this website with the '72 3/4 ton and '81 F100 i had in the past. Im hopin you guys over on the 10th gen forums are just as knowledgeable and helpful. But im open to any advice! Thanks in Advance!

You may have broken the extension housing.

That would be my guess as well. Look for a hairline stress crack where the pan meets the bottom rear of the trans.

You guys were right, i cracked the extension housing where it hooks up the the transmission. Im going to try and attach a picture, but i have been looking for days and i cant find this part. The closest things i could find was this:
http://cobratransmission.com/bw4406-adapter-4r70w-551158537-1

I got the part number from ford and it is:
E8TZ-7A039-J

But the one on that website is "7A040" i believe. And it says it has two threaded holed for bosses shifter (1980 and up) but i have no idea what that is. It says its compatible with the 4R70W. Is this the right part??

Heres the crack:

Do you have a salvage yard nearby? Should be an easy find as there's plenty of these truck in yards.

looking at the picture of the u-joint, I see the clips came out, and the u-joint doesn't look that old. I would have a "chat" with whoever installed the u-joints.
just before the u-joint let go, the driveline was out of balance and caused the crack in the housing.

Haha i had a long chat with myself when i was on the side of the road waitin for a tow truck about how stupid i was for rushing the u joint installation i did acouple months ago. I thought the clips were seated properly, but of course, i didnt take a second look and here i am kickin myself in the *** for it. Lol. I took it to a driveline shop, got them to install some new, high quality ones, and balance it. I also went ahead and ordered the part above because of the price, and of all the junkyards ive called, ive only came across 1 10th with a 5.4 and a 4R70W and they couldnt even tell me if it was 4x4 or not.

Anything i should know about to transfer case removal process? I have a haynes book, but this is my first 4x4 truck so its a new experience, even though i know alot about how they work and what they do, ive never worked around one before.

I have not worked on a t-case so I don't know any tricks. I do like my chilton manual I think they are better than Haynes. just my preference.
go to HTTP://WWW.ETIS.FORD.Com and under "vehicle" enter the vin
that will pull up the build sheet for your rig. you will see what trans you have among other options when the truck was built. it will also show what assy plant your rig was built at.
best of luck,
Wayne

Years ago I had a cup come out of a u-joint caused the same issue but on a standard trans. But it also bent the the tail shaft in the tranny. I would check the tail shaft for straight before I put another housing on.
