Overhead stereo install 66, stock headliner

One of the to dos was to put an overhead stereo in our 66 longbed build and maintain the stock headliner. With 6 weeks of use or lose vacation, this one got done. The headliner is from Dennis Carpenter; the mounting straps are Simpson strong tie hurricane straps. Still need to get grilles in headliner for speakers in rear cab corners. Stock radio mount has a three gauge panel in it because of previous owner butcher job.

Some years ago, a friend of mine and I installed a radio just as you are doing now. Radio location was fine. Installing speakers in the cab corners, should maybe be given a second thought. You will be setting right in front of the left speaker that will rattle your brain and will not get very good separation. We eventually installed under seat speakers. If I recall, they were 3" or 4" x 10 ". They put out incredible sound and got great separation.
You might try different combos before cutting holes in your headliner.
Just a thought.

I agree, the speaker in the rear driver's cab corner is right in the ear. The speakers in the cab corner are 5.25" two ways as one channel. Under the dash in the stock location is a dual voice coil 6x9 as the primary channel that will receive more power via fade control than the cab corner speakers.

I like it. I have been avoiding a Stereo in my truck, but my daughter wants one, and she claims she will drive it someday. I will keep this in mind.

I don't mean to step on toes regarding overhead stereo mounting. We all have our own likes and dislikes. Given that our trucks don't have the best area's for mounting speakers there are options.
As for the stereo mounting, some opt for original location while others put it in the glove box.
This is what I did, and again, I'm not trying to hijack this thread. merely showing options.

Gavin, & Robert, both of you did good, two very different approaches, & nice clean mounts. I like the ceiling mount idea for the radio as it is using otherwise wasted and not usable space. Since my truck already has a buggered hole by a PO there is no need to change.

I like the console mount; looks really clean; little out of my upholstery wheel house though. I have thought of trying to fabricate a console below as shown in your picture, maybe one day.
No worry on "HiJack"; it seems if one posts a few pictures of what one did; one is rewarded with a look at other approaches that provide ideas going forward.
