85 F150 stalling out
Hey guys. I have an 85 F150 2wd with a 4.9L/auto trans. Here recently I've replaced the 4.9L with another 300 I6 from a 78' F150 manual trans. I swapped engines b/c the 300 out of the 78 had a remanufactured engine, big cam, holley 390, Offenhauser intake, split headers and flowmasters. So I swapped all that into my 85 using my C4 trans and torque converter. I also gutted out the EECIV and wired in the DSII.
So now I got everything in and running, the truck stalls when I put it in gear unless I pat the gas. It also does that when I come to a stop. Engine timing is around 14-16. Only way I can seem to drive it is if I set the idle to around 1K. Someone mentioned that either I need a higher than stock stall or a throttle solenoid like what is used to idle the engine up when the AC kicks on. Any ideas? I'm spent....

Welcome to the forum, Facio Visaya! Whenever modifications are made, one is going away from what was engineered and now everything has to be made to work together. Before jumping to conclusions and making big changes [i.e. hi stall torque convertor, etc.], go back to the basics... check for vacuum leaks [hoses, fittings, intake manifold, carburetor base, etc.]. Also, check ignition components as well as ignition timing. Since so much has been changed and unless you are certain the harmonic balancer has not shifted [not uncommon on older engines], then set the timing using a vacuum gauge rather than a timing light.
