Well a couple of days shy of 6 weeks and I finally got my truck back. The entire process was delayed thanks to this ******* named Jim Willard at FOMOCO who took multiple sick leaves/vacations during the process and left my case with someone else who never even had the decency to follow up with me.
It really was a complete joke of a situation and I would feel bad for the Ford customer that doesn't have another vehicle while these shenanigans go on.
Anyways, when the transmission was pulled off, at least a quart of built up fluid spilled out. It ended up being the seals that mate the transmission and torque converter together. I would guess that it only leaked when the bellhousing area flexed just enough to allow some of the fluid to escape. This would explain the inconsistent leaking for several years now.
The total repair bill was $949.00. Ford decided that they would pay $450 and my dealership paid $100 leaving me with about $400.
This obviously isn't that much, but it blows my mind that Ford would make a customer pay anything for this, let alone a loyal customer with multiple brand new Ford vehicles. Furthermore, if they are willing to squeak $400 out of a customer in this situation, you can bet they would hang you out to dry on a large repair.
I have paperwork from my original trip to my dealer in 2013 that states "customer reports seeing transmission fluid leaking from bellhousing"
The dealer didn't fix it because they never took the time to actually look for it and sent me on my way.
Needless to say, I'm really not impressed. I can't say that I will never buy another Ford, but I certainly wouldn't hesitate to jump ship.
