Fuel costs haven't changed so much as, real wages have stagnated since the 1970s. When the minimum wage was $1.25 they got probably 5 gallons. Maybe 2 today?

I realize compared with today's wages ratios are about the same but what I said if we could be paying what the price of gas was back then today nobody would give a hoot about MPG.
