Socket Organizer

I finally broke down and bought a tool box/chest. I also bought a 170 piece socket set. Over the years sockets have disappeared and ive got 5 of one socket size and none of the other and I just said to heck with it, im buying a new set and keeping my sockets here, no more lending them out, as well as the keeping the rest of my tools nicely organized in a tool box. The last straw was when I changed my alternator out last sunday and I spent more time looking for the right socket and wrench size than it took me to do the job.

I like the look of these but I really want something that will fit snugly in one or two of my drawers.

I dont want the type strips that you just clip the sockets to.

Ideally a tray with all the holes and labels for each socket size it what I want. Im not against making my own either, thought about maybe using some plywood and drilling a hole for each socket, but then would have to figure out how to label each hole but I guess that isnt a necessity, but it would be nice.

My small drawers are 22"x10.5 inch, the deeper drawers are 22" x 15"

I have this exact socket organizer and I'm very happy with it. I had to buy two of them because my tool set has 270 sockets.

I found the same kind at harbor freight for just over 10 buck i picked up.... I think it might be better, its black and more like abs plastic....a friend of mine has the crafstman one and its hard plastic.

I trimmed a little off of them though. They were just under 16 inches deep and my drawer max is just about 15 5/16

Yeah not only nice but not that bad price-wise either. Even better is the option to buy them individually in case the full set isn't needed.

The engraving option too----cool!

Socket organizers

I like the Hansen socket organizers, two colors and three different sizes (1/4", 3/8", and 1/2").

The are pretty durable, and you can grab the whole set to bring to the vehicle. With the Craftsman organizers, you cannot pick up the whole group.

the Craftsmen type is a Real PAIN.. to use... flat sheet .... I had them many years ago...

same with home made plywood with holes.. my first .. in 1970 ...

in 45 years as an auto mechanic.. I have not seen a real good idea for socket storage..
wrenches are another story.

I own 2 large chests.. full of hand tools.

1/4, 3/8,1/2, 3/4.................. SAE, Metric...
