You had me going there. Purple55 did take some heat for his lilac truck though. Your thread is officially hijacked John. And I do hope folks have a good sense of humor here or they'll be running me out of town soon.

 

A customer brought me his 55 for a new bed and some paint work. This was the "original" color. I believe that I have the paint code somewhere for the custom match that TriCities Paint (TCP) mixed. Here is the whole truck, pic taken at the F100 Western Nats a couple of years ago.

check my measurements and I was within 1/8" of the numbers posted by jvmcc... hung them and backed away and they looked fine... besides you won't be able to see them at the same time.

I was gonna wait for my bodyman/postman to come help but the post office wants about 15 hours a day of his time lately...

bit the bullet, marked and drilled them... will hang tomorrow and see how close I am... I'm using Mid50 bolts 5/16 SS and gonna get some SS fender washers tomorrow... hey !! first time I've used fender washers on actual fenders !!

seems like someone mentioned using blocks around the glass flange... drilled the top hole 3/8" and the bottom is just a backer board to keep it from splintering out too much... used a 'bullet' bit (with a pilot tip) and did the deed..

 

I would offer one more tip...when you bolt up the fender, use some epoxy or JB Weld on the backs of the fender washers to hold them firm to the FG fender. Scuff the washer a bit to give it some tooth for the epoxy to bond to. It doesn't take too much vibration to fray FG, the stabilized washers will help to keep that from happening.

 

Looks like progress John. Charlies idea sounds like an easy precautionary measure. That should make them a lot stronger on the flange. I used to have glass front fenders and a few of the holes were showing a little wear when I removed them.

I could go ahead and mount all the washers and clamp them in place before hand too

John, I have rear fiberglass fenders on my truck and I also installed the rubber fender welting that has the exposed bead between the fender and box. Set up that way for 3 years and 11,000 miles now and no indication of unusual wear. Good to see the progress!! Steve

 

spent the afternoon drilling the remaining holes and mounting up the fenders temporarily ... to be removed for paint.... it's looking like the back end of a truck more now instead of a pulpwood hauler

and this thing is getting to be a bear to push around... guess it's up over 1500#s by now...and it's just slightly up hill.... my old bones and muscles are straining

I am pretty sure that the color is "Glacier Blue". It was available as a stock color for these trucks. I just painted my own '53 this color. It's got a touch of grey in it. It's not real noticeable, but it's enough take the wussness out of a medium/light blue.
