Greetings from the great northwest! Been reading up on everything Ford here and have learned much from all of you, looking forward to learning more too. Turning 50 next spring along with my wife so what better way to celebrate than by aquiring a classic rare vehicle of the same year! Lots of work to do on our new/old truck but know it will be sooo worth it!
Looking forward to seeing all of your rigs and eeading your posts.

GenX66 Welcome to and the Slicks Forum

You sure picked an old tooth rattler. It ought to be good for 50 mph and drink like a sailor.

Welcome to FTE

Not everyone has the room maybe, but owning a year of birth truck helps keep things in perspective. Like the more modern conveniences and creature comforts, tho for now at least it's nice to have a backup that doesn't require software updates to start the engine, or a $3500 brake job.

Thanks for the nice greetings guys

Yeh im sure its going to rattle my skull a bit! Been wanting one of these since i was 16. The truck is very much intact with very little rust, a few typical dents but nothing too major. Was owned by the same family since '68! Ill be posting some pics here innext few days. Really enjoy reading all of the wisdom off of this site from you all. Again thanks and will post some pics soon. Regards M

Easiest way to post some pics is to set up on something like Photobucket or one of them and then you can link to there from here. Like this. Some pics of my two 1966 f250 4x4s with the original owners.

Thanks for Pic Upload info TA455HO

Have about 70 pics of truck. Will filter and post the best ones. Picking up truck tomorrow and bringing it to its new loving home/driveway/garage... I plan on getting ALL of the mechanical needs done over this upcoming winter. Going to pull engine and tranny, etc and have them all rebuilt in Spokane at the various top shops over there. Body will have to wait until summer 2016 or unless I win the lottery...first I have to buy the tickets, ohh wait... my wallet is now empty, oh thats right I spent the lottery ticket money on the truck...hmmmm
Lastly, I have read many a thread that usually involves the venerable and exalted NumberDummy, alas, though I have learned much by perusing all of his data-rich posts, I cannot seem to decipher my vin paint code:
Here's the full VIN:
F26YR747754
120 F260 L81 A B5
06800 172 4000 745433
Here's my dilemma: The paint code says its Holly Green, which is way too dark for this truck. My truck is more of a Mint Green...the former owner says it was an original U.S. Forest Service Truck... So would that have something to do with the color codes being off...? I can tell you that this truck has NEVER been repainted...Strange...hopefully the Obi Wan of the Slickworld will enlighten me...

Can you post a picture of your warranty plate? The info that you typed doesn't show the exterior color (maybe it is blank)?

Post #13 in this thread shows a warranty plate with a blank color code so you can see an example of what that looks like.

Thanks TA455HO, There is no Paint Code listed, and I was thinking/mistaken that the "L" was a paint code...so there it is. As far as the Custom Cab designator, I'm a bit confused as there is no "B" following the L81, only the next space being an "A" space then B5...Am I still making a mistake here or does this sound more like it? The seat/interior code description you gave is right on! Really appreciate your help, owe you a MicroBrew or two...I get over to Bellevue every few weeks...would love to check out your truck/collection sometime. Again Thanks...M

If you have any of the Master Parts Catalogs from Ford then you can decode any vehicles that are covered in that MPC. Our trucks are covered by the 1964-1972 MPC available on disc from HiPo Parts.

Tools, Catalogs & Supplies - Parts Catalogs & Videos - HiPo Parts Garage

There is a whole Trim Codes section for 1966 and in this case L81 - the L means two things. What color the seat was, and when combined with the 81, either Custom or Standard Cab.

And I'm dyslexic, so you are correct, L81 is 81A = Standard Cab. Just had to use a straight edge to make sure I had the correct line. Whew!!!

The Warranty Plate itself doesn't show the A or B, you have to decode that portion.

I fixed the posts above....

If I'm available when your in town you are welcome to come check them out.

Again thanks TA455HO

Just came in from playing with my new truck! What a great feeling! Never thought Id get my hands on a truck like this, feel pretty fortunate! I get why you have a few of these TA they are just so cool. The wheels i got with it are the 17 1/2s. Even got 5 with it so have a matching spare. Now need to find the tallest period correct tires I can. Any suggestions? Coker? Would love to just get a set from Les Shwab but need to get the wheels blasted, cleaned and powder coated first. In any event im so stoked. Gonna eat some dinner and stay up reading all of your posts. Really a wealth of info on this site. Thanks all.
