How can an 01 f350 have a GVWR of only 9200 lbs?

I'm looking at buying a 2001 F-350 7.3 diesel, and the sticker on the door (according to the owner as I have not seen it yet) says the GVWR is 9200.

I did a carfax on the vin and it does come up as a f350. In looking at Ford's specs on the f350's SRW they say the lowest GVWR they built was, I think, 9600.

Why would this truck only be 9200?

a given truck... with almost nothing on it is GVWR... then the weight of options added to the truck.. even from the factory...... is deducted...

so a fully loaded truck will not carry as much as a stripped down truck with same drivetrain...

The GVWR is how much weight the truck can haul, it does not matter what weight you add, from the factory or otherwise.

You take the GVWR then subtract the actual weight of the truck with whatever "options" and that is your payload capacity.

Well you could have actually responded to what I said by pointing out how I was mistaken or what I was not understanding. How much you know about trucks is demonstrated by what you say or do not by showing us your resume.

It is unclear what you are saying, so the GVWR (the rating of how much the truck can haul based on factors like breaks, springs, shocks, tires, axle etc. can be lowered at the factory because of the weight of added "options"?

Again adding weight to the truck will change how much weight the truck can haul but how does that change the GVWR?

Right, so how could the door sticker on this truck be only 9200? Maybe is was built for another country? But that would have shown in the carfax.

you are 100% correct, the only thing i would change is this: The GVWR is not how much the truck can haul, but how much it can weigh.

Is it a really early build 99? Like January/February 1998? I had a brand new first week February 1998 F350 that was an oddball when it came to brakes etc that didn't match late build 99-04.

I would want to see it with my own eyes. There are a lot of numbers there, front axle, rear axle, gvw, all in pounds and metric.
