Heat and power loss.

Does anyone with a first gen expedition experience loss of power in hot days? I made a post thinking that problem could be transmission related but after eliminating some stuff realized it is not transmission.

When it's cool outside truck runs like a champ but once it hits around 90 or 100 degrees it just becomes a dog I mean it can not get out of its own way until I hit about 40mph.

Problem I think is, it starts to burn to rich. If go outside I can smell the raw gas from the exhaust.

A few weeks ago I replaced the plugs, coils, air filter, cleaned the MAF, throttle body and even replaced the tps.

Someone from another forum said there is a TSB on truck advancing its timing on hot days but not sure how to even look up for that.

Wonder if anyone has a similar issue or a solution.

The fan clutch engaging can really pull the performance down. This would happen when the weather is hot.

Update...replaced the fan clutch and I think it solved the problem. Today was only 94 but after driving around for about 45 mins truck felt completely different. Power is back, I was so used to stomping the gas pedal it felt weird to barely press it to move the truck. Lol.
And I was thinking about rebuilding the transmission thinking it was going bad.

You could even do one better and convert to electric fans. You could get a great setup for about 50 bucks in fans and 150 bucks in a variable speed controller like this one:
Constant Temperature Controllers and Accessories

I think the 2010+ Expedition has dual 15" fans, so something along that size should work. 14-16" or something. I don't think you can fit anything bigger than 16". Ebay seems to suggest dual 14".

Saw a video on YouTube by JEGS that installed a dual 15 inch fans on a 2005 5.4 F150.

Looked super simple so I guess I'll be doing it in a few days.
