Looking at getting a 2001 Excursion 7.3

Hello I am new to the site and apologize in advance if i posted this thread in the incorrect place. I have been looking for an Excursion for a long time and I think I have finally found the one. The SUV has 224k on it and it has the original transmission. The vehicle is immaculate inside and out. Synthetic fluids since new. Suspension has been upgraded with V and B springs and hellwig sway bar(no go fast parts). The seller has paperwork for everything ever done to the vehicle. I guess my main quesstion is the trans should I worry about an E40D with so many miles? I know its not much for the 7.3 but I get mixed input on the trans. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

4R100 is your tranny, change the fluid if needed and run it for another 200K.

Should be fine, but start adding power like a tuner or chip and be prepared...it may or may not last.

Mine went 247k before it started slipping and dying. I am also insanely abusive and it's been to hell and back, plus I'm making substantially more power than stock.

The Internet is full of horror stories about the 4R100, pretty much all of them are ridiculous or had other contributing factors. If it's been well maintained, I'd say you'd be looking at a rebuild in another 75-100k miles just to be safe. You'll be just fine.

Hey guys sorry its been a while, my hunt for a 7.3 PSD took a lot longer than I anticipated I guess i just couldn't make up my mind or I was just holding out for the right one. So I ended up purchasing an 02 F350. I flew to Texas to get it and drove it back to Chicago. It ran like a champ the whole way back. I'll try and get some pics soon.

I own a '01 with 165k. No issues what so ever, but I do plan to have BTS put one of theirs in next year.

Just remember the trans "can" go at any time really. Just save up for it for when/if it happens.
