Torque Pro Logging Quickstart Guide

Trying to help folks get started using TorquePro to collect log files for analysis and troubleshooting.

Here are screenshots of my setup.

Settings are found in two main places. First is on the main screen, gear, Settings. The second is under 'Realtime Info' to Start, Stop, and Email log files.

Most of these PIDs are in Torque's 'Add Predefined List' under Ford (incl Powerstroke)

'Units'- Make sure units are all set for English (Miles, PSI/not bar, PSI/not inHG)

'Also log selected sensors' puts the sensor values in the log file (otherwise it is just GPS and gyros)

'Rotate Logfiles' makes sure each log has its own filename. This is the best way to get good files and keep them organized without extra headers and stuff.

'File Logging Interval' should be adjusted. I like to use 0.5secs to get a good resolution of readings

'Synchronous Logging' is something I don't see a benefit in ordinary logging on 7.3L diesels so I leave it off.

'Select what to log' is where you choose the sensors whose values will be written into the log files.

'Barometer' and 'Torque Converter Slip' needed adjusted using settings found on FTE and shown in my screenshots

'Manage extra PIDs/Sensors' is where you see, add, modify, etc extra and Ford specific sensors. 3 vertical dots in upper right of screen to 'Add predefined set' or 'Add custom PID'

Logs should all be .csv files, NOT kml or other types.

Bluetooth OBDII Adapter

There are people using a number of different OBD adapters. I use this one to connect with my Android via Bluetooth. I haven't had any troubles so far and I've been using it extensively for the past few months for logging and monitoring OBD gauges.

(incorrect pic removed)

Known issues:

1. Pulling DTCs WILL STALL my 2002 7.3L Excursion, every single time.

2. Clearing DTCs sometimes leaves it in a weird state that is resolved by starting, idling, turning off, then okay next time. But I've had similar results with AE, including AE fails a CCT (Perdels) if run right after clearing codes without this cycle.

3. Once in a great while, though not since I replaced a faulty starter (shorted solenoid draining batteries), the adapter won't connect. It could be my phone, which needs rebooted about one every 6 weeks or so anyways. Removing the adapter and plugging back in and rebooting the phone has resolved it every single time and without hassle.

4. ALWAYS have the key off and out of ignition before plugging or unplugging the adapter. I didn't read that, but it's a bad idea to do it with power or an active connection on the OBD bus.

5. Use your Android Device's Bluetooth screen to connect to the adapter the first time, enter the default passcode (01234, 1234, or something like that), and connect without TorquePro. I do recall the first time setup/connection took a connect/disconnect cycle of the adapter. Not sure if it is needed or I did something wrong at the time, it's been quite some time, but be prepared to do that if it doesn't connect right away. Simple and only that one time for me.

Hope this is helpful, too.

Time to update and correct the adapter I'm using. I've found the later versions of ELM to be unreliable. I thought I had updated all my posts previously

Here is my old standby that has worked with every order (at least 5 so far). I've tested each one. This is the vendor I use.

Here's the link.
