affordable upgrades for f100 ideas
So I got my engine apart and decided to see what ideas people had for upgrades. It's a stock 1979 f100 custom ranger is a 302 and a c6 tranny recently rebuilt with dual flow masters. The tranny is a 3 speed auto 2wd. It needs to be affordable and I'm just lookin for a Lil more acceleration then horse power

Rear end gears (depending on what ratio they are) will make all the difference in the world as to how the truck behaves.
For a truck, it can also be a problem if you don't have an overdrive transmission. Without an overdrive, you'll have to decide if you want a truck that can cruise along on the highway with relatively low engine RPMs but are fine with the inability to easily haul or pull a heavy load. This would require high (numerically low) rear end gears.
If you want the truck to be able to haul or pull a load, to be able to accelerate quickly --such as when passing someone and you're ok with lower fuel mileage and high engine cruising RPMs on the highway, then you would need a low (higher numerically) set of rear end gears.
If you have an overdrive transmission, you can keep the lower rear end gears to be able to haul loads, have faster acceleration, keep the engine RPMs down at highway speeds and you can get decent fuel mileage too.
Without overdrive, it's one way or the other. With overdrive, you can have it both ways.
