Shifter problem question

Truck in question is a 1992 F250 351W E4OD 4X4.

I went up to the drug store and after coming out I started the truck and when I tried to shift out of park the shift lever just got all floppy and it would not shift out of park. I did manage to get it out of park after taking off the knee panel and finding the back side of the shifter. Now i can't get it onto Park again. Has any one ever run into this? Am I looking at replacing the column and shifter? I am having a rough day that got worse and need some guidance

Thanks in advance Matt

on the back of the shift tube is two screws that attach the shift cable to the tube. the screws loosen up, and sometimes fall out sticking you with a sloppy shifter, and then no shifter.

Not sure if your truck has the interlock solenoid (some do starting that year), but after you rule out the mechanical/cable possibilities I'd re-check the electrical interlock via brakes/fuse box/ABS//trailer lights etc...

No brake interlock on this one. It is definitely something in the shifter at the column. Once I reached below to where the bottom of the shifter lever is and helped it out of park it would shift with the lever, just very floppy
