Hi, I could use some help diagnosing a transmission problem. I have a 2000 Expy 4x4 XLT with the 4.6L.
Sometime within the last 2 weeks the shifter stopped working correctly. By this I mean that I have to hunt through the PRNDL to find R or D, and when they engage, the PRNDL is usually a bit to the right of where it should be.
The shifter feels a little sloppy but that may be a mental thing.
More dangerously, shifting into P doesn't always engage the parking stop.
AFAIK the transmission is behaving wonderfully, aside from this problem with the shifter.
my guess is the shift linkage bushing is broken. crawl underneath and look at the cable attached to the shift lever have some one else move it while you watch for movement.
