Interior Light Switches and Driving

Hey guys Ive been scanning the forum now for about 2 days looking for an answer to my question and haven't found one. I have a 2001 F150 5.4 V8 Super Crew Cab. I purchased this vehicle used and its got 150K on it. Runs like clockwork no issues there but there are some electrical sqwaks. First, the interior lights. They only come on when doors open or dimmer switch is all the way up, past the detent. While driving and my wife wants to read a map or something I have to turn on ALL of the interior lights using the dimmer switch. The switches next to them seem pointless because they only turn on/off if the dimmer switch is past the detent position. Is that how they are designed? Or can one simply turn on ONE light using the switch next to it without having to turn them all on or using the dimmer switch to turn them on and proceed turning off the ones you dont want to use...One would think that thats how they work, my '08 Escape didnt require dimmer switch manipulation to use a reading light!

Hey Ryan, the switches are for map lights. There should be 2 map light bulbs PLUS the dome light bulb up there. Are they there? The map lights are powered from the battery so should work all the time.

Maybe original owner swapped non map light fixture with one that's now in there and didn't run a second power wire and tied everything to the dome light feed?
