All the newer trucks have dome & cargo Lights that come on automatically when you turn the ignition off. maybe I'm the only one this annoys, but it drives me NUTS!!!!!!!!
Anyone know of a way to keep the lights functioning when the doors are opened or switch turned on, but keep the lights from coming on when the truck is turned off ? Maybe through the computer system?
I know I could simply pull the bulbs or wire a switch in to turn it off when I want, but I would like for the lights to come on when the door is opened. I don't want to have to worry about finding & turning on or off a switch.
I hate it also but it only bothers me when I stay in the truck after shutting off and it is dark out. So I just turn on the dome light with the switch on the dash and then turn it off and the light goes out. I read this on this site awhile back and from what I remeber there was no way to disable it, could be wrong though, but I know if you turn it on and then off it goes out. Do it every morn when I pull up at work.
I have posted in the electrical forum, too, but have not found a way to disarm it. I talked to the dealer a few days ago but he didn't know if it can be disabled or not. He wants me to bring my truck in and let them hook it up to their computer to try to find a way to do it. They have had a lot of customers that have asked the same question. I just don't like letting them experiment on my truck. My problem is that sometimes I am out in the woods after dark trying to catch armed trespassers on the ranch that I manage. Those lights make you a target every time you turn the key. I don't like the feeling.
Some of the advanced aftermarket alarm systems look for unexpected current to the dome light as and indication that the door unlock has been bipassed and the door opened. I suspect a qualified alarm installer might have some insight.
