I bought one of these and it screws in perfectly.

Problem I'm having is I can't get the plastic tube out of my old one. The new one came with two different sized grommets but the plastic thing doesn't come out of the old one. I cut out the rubber grommet from the original but the plastic still won't come out. I'm guessing that even if I cut it out it won't go in the new one. Is there another part I'm suppose to get? Anyone go any ideas?

C8AZ-6A892-A .. Rubber Grommet / 1 7/16" O.D. x 37/64" I.D. / Obsolete
Grommet fits into hole of oil cap, elbow fits into grommet.
Both: Myriad 1968/90's V8 FoMoCo vehicles.
When the rubber grommet hardens, it's very difficult if not impossible to remove the elbow from it.
The grommet has 2 "lips".. one on the outside, one on the inside of the oil cap. You cut the outer lip, but you cannot reach the inner lip to cut it.
Use tin snips, a sawzall or a hatchet to cut the old oil cap apart to reach the inner lip.
Or, go to an auto parts store, buy a new elbow, it's cheap.
