Power steering conversion in C series is complete
It only took me 6 months to finally get the Power Steering conversion on my 58 C800 running.
I learned after the fact the importance of matching up your front axle diameter with the donor truck's axle. They all look the same but the arm that attaches to the wheel/axle varies by axle size. I originally pulled parts off a 72 C600 and the Arm that attached to wheel/axle had a different angle and mounting eye was too small.
The location of steering box on my 58 is different than the 70/72 I pulled parts from and had to extend the arm on the power valve 2 9/16". It helped having someone that has 50+ years of experience sourcing parts on these trucks. Larry from Hutch Auto Parts in Minnesota has about 50+ sitting around for parts. Had difficulty sourcing power steering pump bracket for my 332HD. He knew what I needed and found one at his buddy's down the street. I am clear in California so shipping wasn't cheap either. I just wish I had found him sonner after buying parts locally. Ended up having to buy two complete systems between local place and later Hutch.
The end result sure is that it is nice to have power steering on this big rig now. I have reduced my 30 point turn down to a 3 point turn.
