A question for Mark Kovalsky about 5r110 trans

Hi Folks, I had a Jasper transmission installed last year and have done 6k miles on it. Recently I have a high pitched noise coming from the transmission. I jacked up the back wheels and turned the rear wheel and there is a sound like a dry seal, sort of a squeak, not real loud. It is there but not loud when I drive, until I reach 70 mph. At 70 it is quite loud an sounds like a very high pitched gear whine. Any ideas would be appreciated before I have to go through this ordeal again.
The transmission works perfectly, shifts great, there is good color to the fluid and it is full.
Thanks, Andrew.

I've heard u-joints make that noise, but not a transmission. I don't know where in the trans that noise could be coming from.

Not an expert in this department but sounds more like the rear end. Thats what it was in my case anyway.

Thanks Mark for chiming in, yes I will pull the drive shaft and check closer about that front u joint. It looks good, feels good, but may be as dry as a bone inside. Appreciate you telling me that there's nothing in the transmission that would make that noise, comforting for sure. Thanks again, I will let you know what I find out.
Andrew.

Yes Mikey, I do have some ring gear noise at certain speeds and it could be hard to tell the difference, but this one is a little different. I appreciate you taking the time to write and I will be doing the rear end this winter. AE

Mechanics Stethoscope maybe? Never had a U-joint go that way on our fleet. They silently begin vibrating at 3-4 times an out-of-balance tire vibration frequency that you notice in the seat around 40mph and up. Invariably the differential side joint goes bad first. I haven't seen everything, but about a half dozen or so of these all going this way.
