headers ticking

I got a set of hedman long tube headers on my 5.0. They were ticking at times so I removed the drivers side and you could see on the gasket where they had been leaking at most of the ports. The passenger side showed no signs of leakage though. So I reinstalled them using permatex copper rtv. This stopped the ticking for a little while but now they are back to it again. This seems to only happen on the drivers side. Any suggestions on a better way to seal up the leak?

You need better gaskets. Copper or steel core gaskets won't leak if you make sure to go back and tighten the header bolts after the first few days.

Just use quality gaskets, the ones that come with the headers are complete junk.

Cool. What would be a good gasket to use?

I have used permaseal on stuff. My old pontiac I had headers on I had found a set of "dead soft" copper gaskets(not sure what the brand was anymore) at a local speed shop in Memphis TN and never had any problems out of them.

Yes on the Percy's header gaskets. They are awesome and reusable. Also as somebody else said you always have to retighten them a couple days later.

I used 2 sets of Percy gaskets and they both sucked. One head leaked on all 4 ports. Running Remflex now for over a year and no issues.
