Transmission fluid temp sensor or something else?

My trans temp gauge never reads very hot, needle rarely makes it past a 10 o'clock position. Now my trips lately have been pretty short, but even on the longer ones the needle is just barely moved.

I am assuming this would indicate a TFT sensor that needs replaced? CEL is not on, I will stop at auto zone and have them check the codes since I don't have a code reader. No shifting problems or anything, everything is acting normally.

Already will be dropping the trans pan to change fluid/filter this weekend, so hoping to change this out while I am in there.

If your gauge is reading within the band that says "NORMAL", then that is what it is.

Stopping at AutoZone will be a waste of their time unless you're there to buy something else.

AZ will read the codes for free, rarely buy anything there, especially replacement parts and electrical components.

I'll keep an eye on the gauge, just seems as though I should be a little warmer than it has been. Last spring/summer/fall, if I remember correctly, needle usually got to the vertical position. In the winter it started staying low and hasn't changed now that it is warm again.

Is this a new behavior?

My truck with the 6.0 cooler barely gets above 100 driving around town. Going up a big mountain, maybe 125. When I'm towing my RV those temps are about 50 degrees higher.

Autozone can't read Ford transmission codes. So if they read the codes, they will tell you there are no transmission codes. Every. Single. Time.

appreciate all the input gentlemen. Maybe nothing wrong with the sensor. just thought it was a little weird. I'll be towing a camper in a few months, just trying to make sure everything is all good to go before doing so and didnt want to drop the pan twice since I will be changing filter already.

Get yourself a scanguage the dash guages are glorified idiot lights. It will not raise until your really hot. My dash Guage for trans temp never goes above about the 10 o clock either Even when pulling my TT whivh is not very heavy so i dont expect it to.
