My 2006 Ford F250 6.0 will not stay running

I replaced # 1 & 3 glow plugs without issues. I started it up and ran a diagnostic and all was good. Drove home that night and returned to a shop to do some other work on the truck. When I was done that day I acted like an 18 year old and did a burn out just to show off to friends. Apparently when the truck bounced a bit it shut off the emergency fuel pump switch. I drove approx. 1 mile before I pulled into a store where it turned off. I realized it was out of fuel so I checked the switch and reset the fuel pump. I turned key 8-9 times and made sure fuel was full and coming out of the top fuel filter. Would not start. I got it started with a gas rag in front of breather. If I keep the rpm's above 1000 it will stay running. As soon as I let it idol to put in gear it stops and won't start again until I use the gas and rag method. Day 3, I changed both fuel filters and still nothing. I checked the oil pressure which is good. I changed the oil and filter just to make sure the the HPOP had clean oil. I can get it started with the rag and the truck now runs in idol. I fuel up the truck to make sure I had a full tank. I drove around our bypass hoping it was just air in the lines and just needs to run. It ran but I could feel the jerking and missing. I ran hard for about 2 miles but only got to about 80 when it felt as if starting to smooth out. When I pulled into a store it shut off again and wouldn't start. I just at changed out the IPR and still nothing This is my sons truck which I had the 6.0 bullet proofed by a very reptiable company here in Houston, Tx. ( Power Stroke Enginuities). The truck has run great until I ran out of fuel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lets see if we can get a MOD to move this to the 6.0 Forum
6.0L Power Stroke Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
so you can get some answers.

Do you have something like the Scanguage 2 to read live data?
You will need this to avoid throwing parts at it and running up the cost.

At the top of the 6.0 Forum is the Tech Folder with a lot of very good info
and some "No Start" check info.

When you get the time look at the Tech Folder at the top
of the 6.0 Forum. Here is a lint to it.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...ch-folder.html

They have put some help info and you
can also find a lot of things to do to keep the problems
from eating your $$. We see shops that like to take diesel
owners to the cleaners when it comes to excessive repairs.
They do things that don't need to be done and charge a lot
and still not fix the root problem. We can help you with that
and if you like to turn wrenches you can find all the help and
info to do all your own work and keep the $$ where it belongs.
In YOUR pocket.

Also don't be afraid to ask questions. Welcome to the 6.0 world.
