Just bought a 2003 6.0. $4000

I recently sold my 2011 ram dually for financial reasons. I needed another truck and found this one on craigslist. It has 330,000 miles but the engine had been replaced with a 2005 that had had gasket and studed. Also had a new HPOP and stand pipes and new turbo in the last few months. Is ran bad when cold but a little better when warm. I check with some friends that knew 6.0s (I have always had a Cummins) and he tough it was the FICM. I ended up getting it for $4000. Got it home and the ficm checked out fine. The check engine light was not on but I decided to check for codes. Had a few different ones but the one that got my attention was cam position sensor open. replaced it and has been running fine sence. It probably was just a loose conection because I found that the connector was not latched to the sensor when I removed it. Spent a day a 3 bottles of simple green cleaning the interior and doesn't look too bad. No rips or tares but drives seat has a lot of wear. So far I replaced the coolant, engine oil and filters, alernator, A/C compressor, front and rear pads and rotors, and a lot of odds and ends. I got ahold of the origanal owners an he said that engine was replaced at 280,000 miles and had also been fire ringed. It has been fun learning about the Fords and the the 6.0. So far I am impressed with it and might replece it with a King Ranch 350 when I am ready

what did you put in for coolant? sounds like a good deal. the very most basic 6.0 rule is to always use oem oil and fuel filters. also make sure you have the short oem oil filter cap.

Yep, had to buy a new Ford oil filter cap to replace a napa filter. Used a heavy duty silicate free truck coolant. Have Motorcraft fuel filter that I haven't installed yet. I still need to fix the low heater output. Replace the winshield. Have the computer reflashed, it had a program in it when I got it but I didnt get the programmer. Still cranks longer than I like, about 2 seconds, might be normal, just not use to it. Has an oil leak, looks like around the oil filter. Got codes for #4 gp and gpcm communication falt. I have an edge evolution that I want to use for gages but it won't communicate with the truck, hope the reflash takes care of that. Need to serice the trans and replace fluid in the differentials, transfer case, and power steering. I will have about $5500 total in it when done. Body is in good shape, just a couple dings and a SMALL dent in the bed. It REALLY looks like it has about 100,000 miles on it, it cleaned up that well.

Yes I did. You will need hog rings and a hog ring pliers, and some patience. You sound like you have done a lot of you own work on the truck so I would think you could handle this!

Scroll down to the pic.

I put the original back on, if I was to do it again I would install a new one just because in 15 years from now I would think I would be done with the vehicle. I would replace it from Ford if available.
