Check the fusible links. The small wires that connect to the battery side of the starter solenoid, at least one of them should have a tab on it that says "fusible link" then (probably) 16 GA. Take this wire and tug on it. If it feels soft or stretches, the link is burned out and needs to be replaced. They're available at the parts store. DON'T REPLACE THEM WITH REGULAR WIRE!.
Also, expect more damage, possibly the alternator (the diode bridge doesn't like reverse polarity) and voltage regulator, if it's the solid state version. Also, if you have a later model radio, that could be toast too.

Uhm, I did this... once... dumb guy me used black wire for both leads to the battery, and I didn't double check.
Destroyed my Alternator Voltage Regulator, although it was a 3G Alternator. Stereo seems to have had some proper protection and survived, as did the rest of my junk. Although, I'm not sure what would happen to the Gauge Cluster and it's Voltage Regulator (Upgraded to '90's gauge set which do not use it).
I would guess the Ignition Box would have taken a hit, and any related stuff, like the pickups in the distributor.
Start with the Fusable Links and Fuses first, then work you way through the Ignition, and then the rest.
