Hi, so I have a 1971 ford 250 camper special. And I have lost all electrical power to the truck and I cannot figure out why. The battery is two months old. The starter is new. The alternator is new. The cilinoyd is new.. Everything around the battery is. I have checked all the fuses and replaces them just for the hell of it. Also have checked and cleaned all the grounds and connections... Any idea what could be wrong ??
Ok, try this. Jump the soleniod on the fender with a screwdriver and see if the starter cranks. (touch the big battery side terminal to the small terminal on the front) It should, since that eliminates anything inside the truck(It won't start due to lack of power to coil).
Have you checked the fuse panel with voltmeter to see if there is any power to it at all? There is a large line from the soleniod(battery side again) that brings power inside the truck. If that broke, then you will be dead in the water.
Check to make sure all the wires on the soleniod are on the proper terminal. Sometimes I've seen people replace parts and get the wiring mixed up and get things outta whack. Just fixed one for a fellow this summer after they replaced a starter. He got the wires mixed up and wouldn't start. After swapping a couple wires around, it fired up.
Go buy a good test light, any parts store has them. Don't go cheap, get a good one with a long pliable wire, not a stiff short wire. Now you are set to start learning how to trace out electrical problems instead of throwing new parts at it hoping one of them hits the bad spot. Clip the wire end to any good ground and start probing, tracing the power path and you will soon see just where the old electrons stopped getting through.
