M5ODR2 96 and up, all the same?

Did my clutch about a months ago when my slave finally gave up the ghost... unfortunately, as I thought the 2nd gear synchro seems to be trashed. Will the m5odr2 from the later_(97 to 04 or so?) Match up the same to a 5.o. tried to search this with no luck.

Thanks all, if I can find a good trans I will be happy with this truck! But right now it grinds up or down shifting into 2nd... very unpleasant.

Did you pull the top cover off the tranny and look in there. Your shift forks may be the problem and are a pretty easy inexpensive fix. It can be done without pulling the transmission out.

I did not... What would indicate a problem? I hope it's this easy!!!! I put the trans in by myself last time, I don't wanna do that again!!

The new style 97+ M5ODR2 bolted to the 4.2 is the same tranny as the 96 and older but the shifter top is different, with the shifter being located further back on the tranny than the 96 and older shifter top/trans cover.

The shifter rails are all contained in the shifter cover... Just swap the covers and you should be good to go...

Off topic, but what are you doing with the 97+ shifter cover... I'm in need of one..

Sweet, thanks!
I haven't bought a trans yet, just wanted to know my options... I'll let you know if I get one!

Hmm got me thinking now! To me the shifter position is too far forward on our trucks. So using the 4.2 trans would bring it closer to the driver, providing it doesn't interfere with the front seat. How far back is the shifter?
