What goes here?

Hey guy's, Fixxing up my old 91 XLT. just finished valve stem seals, valve cover gaskets and now vacume lines. Can someone tell me what goes between these 2 hose ends. Is it just a pipe to connect the 2 or is something else missing. thanks, Marty

One of those openings is the inlet (or exhaust muffler?) for the smog pump. Not sure what the other one is.

Are you serious! the inlets are suppose to open like that? When I bought the truck the owner had them connected together. Should there be a filter or something on it? thanks

The lower one on my 91 5.8 has a paper/tinfoil composite hose of about 8" and that's about it.. The other is wide open...

Yes, they're just open with no filter. Previous owners do some strange things lol.
