Dealer website is a lot less than my x-plan price. Anyone know why?

So today I decided that I'm going to buy a new 2015 gas Super Duty. I love my 2003 6.0L F250, but it has 338,000 miles and has needed too many repairs lately. I was driving a brand new truck today and that has convinced me I'm moving up in model years.

I logged in to my X-plan website and I found a truck I'm interested in. The price is broken down as follows:
Base X-Plan $42,797
Total of Options $0
Destination Charges $1,195
Subtotal $43,992
Available Incentives -$3,000
Net X-Plan $40,992

The truck is at a local dealer. I went on their website and it is listed there for a lower price:
MSRP $46,825
Dealer Price $39,234

The window sticker says:
Base Price $43,100
Total Options/Other $2,530
Total Vehicle and Options/Other $45,630
Destination & Delivery $1,195

Total MSRP $46,825.

Can anyone help me understand the dealer price in relation to the X-plan and the $1,758 difference between the two and why the dealer price is the lower number and not the other way around?

Thanks!

Maybe due to this is the end of the 2015's and Ford has started kicking back more to dealers to make room for 2016's?

I too have access to X-Plan pricing. Out of my three last vehicles, I have been able to beat the X-Plan pricing by working with the dealer 2 of the 3 times. The only time that I did not beat it was with my 2005 F150. It was a stripped down work truck and they did not have much wiggle room. I have often noticed, on higher trims, they have a lot more room to negotiate.

Kind of a rambling post, but hopefully you get my point.

Dealers have some (not always a lot) of back end money on vehicles to play with. If for instance it's an old age unit on the lot they want to clear out, often times they'll advertise the price at or below invoice to get rid of it, which will be below X-plan.

X-plan is decent pricing, and if you're not into negotiating then it's a great tool to get your instant price and be done with the deal. However, if you're good at negotiating and you're working several dealers, it's fairly easy to get a price below X-plan. It might save you only a few bucks and might not be worth the hassle, or it can save you a lot more and you come out a winner in the end.

That advertised dealer price is probably also taking into consideration the current Ford Credit financing rebate of $1500. So there is the $3000 Ford Rebate + the $1500 FMC rebate right now. Plus, if you're persistent with ordering vehicle brochures, you can get yourself another $750 Private offer coupon from Ford.

All retail items have various price points planned so that folks who have more money pay more. As the pool of "more money" payers shrink, they move to the next price point.

The real questions is should we buy 1st and pay more , or wait aand be in a later lower price point.

X2 - just depends on how much effort you want to put into finding a deal...timing is important as incentives change.

I have access to X-Plan through work. Most of the time the dealerships have better discounts and rebate incentives that are not offered through the plan. Sometimes the X-Plan is cheaper on new design model years (2015 F-150 for example) which do not carry many discounts or incentives. This is until Ford has flushed all of the "Heritage" (Ford marketing word for old body-style) units out of their inventory.

When I bought my 2015 gas back in December, window sticker price was $46.000. Dealer website had it for $42.000. Rebates and stuff using their financing system and other stuff. Went in there with my X-plan and got them to go to $38,000 with all the instant rebates.

How does the X-Plan compare to the D-Plan, pricewise?

Thanks guys for adding to my knowledge of the plans.

So after looking at a lot of different trucks on the X-plan site and on individual dealers sites it appears that the XLT's must have been on a 'special'.

Everything higher than XLT was more expensive on the dealers site than the X-plan site. The XLT's were mostly less expensive on the local dealers websites than the X-plan site. I decided an XLT with some decent options would be perfectly fine for me.

I found a few I liked. I called the dealers and let them know I was speaking to other dealers. Eventually I got a 2015 F350 Fx4 CC SB XLT with remote start, snow plow package, upfitters, XLT value package, power seats, Fx4, ESOF, Sirius and a bunch of other stuff.

The dealer was ~$1,800 less than X-plan. I eventually got it for an additional $1,700 less than the X-plan ($3,500 below published X-plan). I was happy with what I paid, and I assume dealer was happy with what they got. It was the last day of the month too.

The dealer gets paid 3% of MSRP from Ford on every vehicle they sell.
