Just finished painting my 1961 uni

Original chrome on bumper and grille

Camaro subframe to achieve the front stance. Flipped springs in the rear.

Vintage Torq Thrust wheels look really nice on the truck.

This tailgate was traded to me for a Mercury tailgate. It was amazingly straight. <br/>Rich

Also made my own rear view mirrors. The stock ones are bulky. Used generic ribbed 5" mirror heads on aluminum arms I made. I think they look pretty clean.

No. I prepped it and primered it and then had Maaco in Sacramento scuff it and spray it. I was not expecting a great paint job. I just wanted a nice driver. Maaco absolutely shocked me with their quality. There is almost zero orange peel. I highly recommend them.

I did remove all the glass, grille, bumpers, hood, tailgate, etc to eliminate masking. They painted all the pieces separately and then I towed it home and put it all back together with new rubber, etc.

I got desperate and went to Maaco here. They weren't even interested in doing what I wanted done. Which was a good quality job that I was willing to pay for. In my opinion they are just another production shop that only wants to do remove and replace insurance jobs.

But your truck does look very good.

Thanks for the kind words. I think the Maaco in Sacramento caters to a wide client base. Others may be as you describe.
I was lucky. I was looking for a 10' paint job but got near show quality.

Truck looks great! Do you mind divulging what you paid? I am still not sure what I want to do for painting other than not pay $8k for a paint job heh. As Maacos are franchises, I am sure it is hit and miss. There are several around here and one in particular seems to have much better reviews than others.

Paint job price

I stripped the truck and prepped and primered it. They scuffed it and shot it. I paid $1600 for inside and out two tone paint job. I think Masco uses the same price sheet at each location so the prices should be close. The secret is to find a Maaco with a good guy operating the spray gun.

Great looking truck - I called the local Maaco shop out here on the right side of the country after seeing and reading your post. They said they would take my truck parts and spray for about $1,500 outside of cab only. I told them "then why would I bring it in in pieces"???? I'm not at that stage yet anyway but thank you for sharing, I will revisit the possibility when the time comes. BTW - Is that a 66 in the garage behind the uni??

Beautiful truck. How does it ride? Looks like you have earlier plates on it. Nice.

suspension in my Uni

I put in a 78 Camaro front sub-frame and also used the Camaro rear end as well so I have the same bolt pattern all the way around. Flipped the rear springs and put a C notch in the frame. Heavy sway bars front and rear. Rides like a passenger car.
