Fuel Tanks Still Won't Fill Up Completely

So I pulled the bed and found that my pickup tube or cone looking thing was busted to pieces. Fixed that using the fuel line trick. It has worked somewhat.

Before I was able to only fill up 20 gallons of fuel between the two tanks..now roughly 30 gallons of fuel between the two?

Why is it that I am not being able to fill the tanks up with the rest of the tanks capacity?

are the tanks empty, or the gauge says they are empty?
the gauges in these trucks usually read empty when there is still fuel in the tanks.
i would rather have the gauge say empty and still have 4 gallons in the tank than have it say 1/4 and be empty.

Is it 3/8 fuel hose you used?

The fuel gauges are reading empty, well real close to it. I don't like running the truck to the point wher it starts acting up.

these trucks have 19 gallon tanks in them.
so if you are reading empty and only putting 15 gallons in, they you still have around 4 gallons in reserve.
when my 88 reads empty it will only take 9 gallons.

Both of my tanks will take ~4 additional gallons after the pump first clicks off. Usually I don't bother topping them off because it takes forever because of how they back up so quickly. Anyways, when the tanks are between 1/2 and 1/4 tank, the gauge will start reading 1/4 or below. I have found that it's just easiest to go by how far I've driven on the tank to know how empty the tank really is.

I've experienced the same thing. After the pump clicks off, I'll wait a minute, then put in another 2-3 gallons. If you are careful, you can pull the nozzle out a little to see how the diesel is filling. The diesel bubbles seem to trigger the pump-stop mechanism.

Diesel foams up so much I think it clicks off the pump before it really is completely full.

There was a station near my old work that had one of the "big truck" pumps, and after I did the vent mod on my tanks I could fill them with the big truck pump (not at full bore, mind you, but even at less than half it was still faster than the standard pumps), BUT I could not top it off or I would get foam and stuff burping up out of the filler neck.

Okay. This is exactly what I am experiencing. The pump clicks off and i can put more but the pump starts shutting off constantly as if it's getting backed up and i look in the filler neck and see bubbles. Glad to know I am not the only one.

What is this "vent mod"?
