Plowing with my F250... Help Please!!!
Hello everyone! I am new here and joined to get some advice on the following question. I intend on staying around after this to hopefully learn even more!
I am currently looking at a Meyer snow plow and want to use it on my 1997 F250 which is the heavy duty version. The thing I am curious about is the fact that it is 2 wheel drive and I want to know if the suspension can handle a plow and if the frame will accept it. The plow came from a 1991 F150 and I'm pretty sure it will work. I've heard of others using a 2 wheel drive for plowing and I only plan on doig very light plowing on flat paved surfaces. I just really need to know if the truck can physically handle it. Thank you for any input!!!

Now of the mount question..the frame from a 91 will NOT fit your 97. You need a plow frame from a 92-97 F250, f350, F-SuperDuty. The F150 and bronco are different

Just so you know unless you are putting a ton(LITERALLY) in the bed you will not be able to plow any snow with a 2wd

The coil springs will not like it, but you will not brake anything
As for the 55 gallon drums. I hope yo have some way to mave 1000b drums and also securely tie them down.
I think i would make square forums and fill with concrete if you are going that route. Form in some eye bolts to tie them down too and lift them

You're going to need good tires and weight in the bed. When I had the commercial plow on my F250 it sucked in 2wd and sometimes even in 4wd. I took out a guard rail once by going just a touch too fast into a turn. It would fishtail in an instant with that plow on there. Of course it did weigh about 400lbs and was out pretty far. Tires were about 50% used all seasons. Not the best, not the worst.
Chains and weights. Most 2wd plow trucks are just for parking lots; I hope what you have to plow doesn't have many hills... They're also stake bodies or mason dumps with a salt spreader in the back. Probably an extra 2,500lbs when filled with salt.
