I am wondering If my truck could handle a full size(6-1/2') western snwplow. I only have a 4.6L V8, but I was wondering if it could handle it if I did something to the suspension and maybe to the engine.
Hi and welcome to the forum
From what I have read here, the frame or the suspension are strong enough to handle the weight and stress of the plow or plowing. You really need a SuperDuty for that. They have a stronger frame and beefier suspension.
If you do a search, up at the top of the forum, for "snow plow", you will find a few threads on this subject.

The F-150's are most definately strong enought for plowing, if equipped right. Most plow manufactures (I can't recommend Fisher plows enough) make a light duty or "LD" series plows. They are full width 7 1/2 foot plows made lighter by decreacing the plow hight, and using a plastic cutting edge instead of a steel one. I have a Fisher LD on my ext cab with a 4.6L and it is a wonderful wonderful combination. We see lots of snow in here in Maine. Just use your head when plowing, and you will have no issues.
I'm from Maine also, and just had a 7-1/2' Fisher LD installed on my 03 supercrew and had the pleasure of using it for the first time today, needless to say I am not sorry one bit. It is a little on the short side, but for residential use it should not be a problem at all and when the plow is up it only brings the front down maybe 1-2 inches.
03- If you're still under warranty, I'd advise against it. It'll void your warraty in heartbeat. The last thing you need is an engine or tranny letting go and the dealer catching wind that you had a plow mounted to it.
My dealership said they would honor the warranty with no problem, but if I happened to be away from home and something happened another dealership may not honor it. I only use it for personal use so I am not worried about it. Fisher also makes a plow called the Homesteader that meets the weight requirements of your truck.
