Sped/Odometer not working,. . . . .
Weird,
I looked over all my fuses and they all seem to be fine. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but my turn signal fuse kept on blowing so I replaced it with a nice piece of sheet metal the exact same size as a fuse. The turn signals work now, but do you think this might be a reason my spedometer isn't working? Also, the harness that makes it so you can't start it in drive and reverse and such has been hot wired, it kept on shorting out on me so I figured it would be cheeper just to hot wire it then to buy a new harness every two weeks (maybe I am finding out I was wrong).

Ryan's truck is an '83, so his speedo is NOT powered by a fuse. That's only on '92-up.
Under the truck, pull the speedo cable out of the VSS right where it goes into the t-case output housing. There's a hairpin clip, so just pull the cable & wiggle, and it'll come straight out. Then feed the cable over the frame rail so it hangs out under the door, but DON'T let the cable slide out of the sheath. Put the tiny square cable end into a cordless drill and see if spinning it causes the speedo to work. If it does, then the plastic gears inside the t-case are stripped out. If not, the cable is broken or the speedo head is bad.
I agree about keeping the right fuse in. If it blows, you have a problem that needs to be fixed.
