well I changed the fluid & filter and my wallet is $250.00 lighter. Thanks for the comments.
PS One dealer tried to convince me to just do the fluid and not the filter, but isn't that akin to taking a bath and putting back on your same dirty old shorts? I thought so.

Eh, maybe. I've never seen the filter on the 6R140. But the one on the 4R100 and 4R70W never needs to be changed. By the time that thing gets obstructed the transmission already needs a rebuild.
The fact that the service interval is 150,000 miles implies to me that there's no reason to change the filter on this one either.
I have been under the impression from my (very unscientific) research that the filters are these trannies are pretty robust and have an expected life span in the hundreds of thousands of miles.
