240 Oil Pan Gasket Replacement

Can you remove the oil pan without having to lift the engine?

My front cover gasket set came in but, the front pan seal overlaps back into the front corners of the pan/bottom of the engine pan rails by about 1" on each side. The ends of the seal won't go in unless the pan is loosened and dropped down. If I have to break the pan gasket loose to do this, it's likely to leak worse if the pan gaskets aren't replaced.

I've gotten some of the oil leaks stopped but, my 240 still leaks oil like the Exxon Valdez.

I figure now is a good time to remedy some of the remaining leaks, since I don't want all my pretty new suspension and brake parts getting coated but, I'm not sure if I can remove the pan without having to lift the engine off the mounts (?).

Just about every set comes like that I've seen no mater what type 6 or V8's.
This is incase the gasket tears some. Cut it and butt it up to the pan gasket.

Clean it well and put a bead of rtv let it skin over a little install front cover is how I've always done it never leaked

Thanks for your reply. I had considered cutting the front seal, as you described but, the pan leaks and the rear seal leaks too. The pan needs to come off to get this taken care of.

I just don't know if the oil pan will come out without having to lift the engine?

--aside from being really oily and dirty, the paint looks really bad on the pan. It needs a good cleaning, bead blasting and a new coat of Ford blue paint.

The engine needs to be lifted about 4" for the own to come out. Lift the engine, block it up under the mounts, drop the pan and then reach in and unbolt the pickup. It's not a lot more work to yank the engine and do the rear main as well-

Thanks for the response. I was afraid of this. ....Guess I'll have to drag out the engine hoist.
