96 F350 XLT 7.5L will not run.
Hello everybody,
I have a 96 F350 7.5L gas Crew Cab with 84K mi. that will only run for approx. 30 sec when cold, then shuts off. After that, the truck starts, but won't run until you come back and try again after a 1/2 hour or so. Items replaced include MAF, ignition module, dist pick-up coil, new cap and rotor. Checked fuel press. at the rail and is normal. Currently has no codes except a pending P0443 evap code, for which a new purge solenoid was replaced, but did not remedy. Interestingly, it has a blinking OD light, which my transmission guy said was "trans fluid temp sensor reading high". In order to replace that sensor, he said I would need a new solenoid pack. Replaced that, still has the code. He ended up running a separate wire outside the harness from the EEC to the trans as a "quick fix" and code still there. This leads me to believe all of my problems are due to a bad EEC. Thanks in advance for any advice to these issues.

How did you get the P0443 code? You need to run a self test to determine what else may be wrong, and if the EEC is bad.

Thanks for the reply, The Check Engine light and the flashing OD light both came on during a trout fishing trip to the Eastern Sierras a few years back, (the truck has been on Non-OP since). It was however still drive-able until I had to move a few months back and it wouldn't run, so I had to have it towed off the property we were leaving. Shortly after I posted this thread, I found somebody here who remarkably had the same two codes and remedied it with a new re-man EEC. That thread is here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ode-p0443.html. I have not performed a self test, (Didn't know about that). Thanks very much for the link on how to do that! Hopefully I can perform this task and get back to you with results.

You have OBD-2 and no self-test because yours is a California truck. Non California trucks with a 460 had OBD-1 and the self-test through 1997.

How did you check your fuel pressure? Did you check vacuum lines?

Plugged in re-man EEC and truck runs great now, no more blinking OD light or check engine light.....have not driven it yet though, as it needs registration and insurance coverage first, but pleased that it runs now. Checked fuel pressure with a gauge rented from Autozone, and connected to the Schrader valve on the fuel rail. Did not check vacuum lines. Thanks to all who responded!
