egt sensor question

egt sensor question
So for a week now, my EGT sensor has been stuck at 92 degrees reading. Seems to only work when I'm at a red light, temp reads 250-300. Accelerate and back to 92.
i read the sensor is in the up pipe. I assume passenger exhaust manifold, between the manifold, and the exhaust catalyst? Does anybody know what it looks like, and what is the best way to access it?
and what damage can it cause if I keep driving like that?

It's between the manifold and the turbo on the passenger side. Sorry I can't help you more with accessing it. Going from memory here, but I think the wire going to it has a plug right next to or behind glow plug control module. It looks the same as the two little sensors going into the exhaust on the front and rear of catalyst.

Its on the passenger side. Remove the wheel well. Should be 6 or so 5.5 or 6mm bolts on the outter side top where the fender cover is connected (the plastic clips on the fender cover should not have to messed with) and then two on the inside 8mm if i remember right its been awhile. I believe there is one plastic clip that has to be removed on the bottom rear fender side and another screw/bolt on the front bottom fender side.
After you get it removed look to the left side of the manifold just above where the up-pipe connect to the manifold. Be ginger removing it as they like to eat the threads(i usually use a line wrench or a sensor socket, an open end wrench can easily round the nut and cause more issues), you might have to tap the threads prior to installing the new sensor. When you install the new one i would use a nickel anti seize. Hope this helps

Yes. Replaced the sensor and getting correct reading again. Took all but 10 minutes to replace. Took longer for the local dealer to get the part. Don't forget to put spark plug anti seize on the new thread. Just in case.

Ah right on. Seems strange it worked flawlessly and then suddenly when I stepped on it I noticed it was jumping between 92 and 850ish. Then when coasting it would read again around 250-550 depending on RPM. The moment I would give it slight throttle it hit 92 again. Guess I'll need to order it...

Of course the sensor was still good then.
