So here is something weird...
Earlier today I was thinking about my power window switch going out. For no particular reason, because it hadn't shown any signs of a problem.
Well wouldn't you know it, about an hour later I'm driving along and all the sudden my driver window wont roll up. Rolls down, but not up.
Mess with it enough and finally get it go to back up. Call the dealer, $189 for a new switch. Jesus.
Call Napa, they are $119, call Car Quest, they are $99.xx.
Go to car quest, get the switch. Compare it to my old one, and no question the carquest switch is factory in a different box. Same manufacture, stampings, everything.
Install it in their parking lot. Just my luck, new switch is bad out of the box. To confirm I reinstalled my old one and the other windows worked fine.
Returned switch, but on my way back in to return it, I accidentally closed the door on the trim piece and broke the clip that holds it down
Went to Napa, got another switch, which is clearly an aftermarket and different than the factory one, installed it, now works fine. Except the lights on the buttons are slightly different color and much brighter than factory.
Used some bacon duct tape to hold the trim piece down until I get another one.
If you are looking for a window switch, go to carquest, they have factory switches for ~100 less than the dealer. Yeah, mine was bad, but I'm sure it was just a fluke. Must have been sitting on the shelf somewhere for a long time, because the production date was 2001.

Imagine a switch costing that much! Talk about stickin it to ya, did you walk funny when you left the store?
One of the things I like about my old Mercedes is the serviceability of parts. All the window switches can be opened up and serviced, and they even have a little color coded wiring diagram inside. And yes it is a diesel.
