Need help,Oil Cooler for 1994,460
Okay guy's do I have too keep the oil cooler on my 1994 F-350 460 engine, its a 4x4 but I do not do any hauling or towing just normal driving,I live in Las Vegas, Nevada so it does get hot during the summer but that's all.I would prefer just putting a remote oil filter on it.What was the purpose of Ford putting the oil cooler on the engine in the first place ?

I just did a mod on my 1994 F350 with a 460. Like SoCal said, I took off the oil cooler that uses coolant as a heat exchanger, and put on a late 80's early 90's oil cooler that uses a radiator type cooler just like a transmission fluid cooler.
Mine had a leak and I had oil leaking into the coolant gunking up my radiator. You might get the reverse and get coolant in your oil, a big time problem there.
If you need any help let me know if you want any pointers, but luckily the 92-97 trucks already have the holes in the radiator core support for the mounting bolts, just need to tap them with threads.

You can get the Ford Racing oil filter adapter, a thermostatic sandwhich that has the oil filter screw into it, and has tapped holes for oil cooler lines. Basically has a thermostat that opens up to let oil flow through the lines to a remote mounted cooler. It's what I'll be doing in the long run.
