I haven't read anything about this, but since I know it can be done to clean out radiators, has anyone ever had the oil cooler rodded out instead of just replacing it? I have a really good shop down the road about two miles from me. Down time isn't an issue, just wondering if it may be a good alternative, especially since the aftermarket coolers are junk. Your thoughts?
The problem is that its just hard to get good flow through the oil cooler because of the design. There always seems to be a hang up in the bottom of it. Agreed, aftermarket oil coolers are junk along with their gaskets.
The new improved OEM oil cooler has an added row for better cooling.
It would be a shame to pay to have the cooler rodded out to have it not help.
Use an OEM cooler and don't let it clog in the first place by using better coolant. Repeat failure isn't a huge issue if you flush the coolant correctly.
I'm not sure you could even rod the oil cooler, it's a plate cooler and not a straight tube like a radiator so I'm not sure how you'd clean out each level without opening it up. You'd have to either chemically clean it, or just replace it. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...nt-update.html
