That sounds pretty close but a truck that won't turn over is drawing a lot of current somewhere - best to keep it on a charger and/or charged till things get straightened out.

I still haven't seen what engine you have? Is it a 6 or V8? V8's are notorious for the starter hanging up on the flywheel. I wouldn't doubt 6's do too. I think at this point it would be worth taking the starter out and testing it.

You should check for voltage at the starter terminal while attempting to crank. This will tell you if your solenoid is working and the cables between the solenoid and starter.

This week's "progress": confirmed battery was fully charged, still no crank, measured voltage at starter, it was fine. So we pulled the starter out and pulled it apart, and found an internal short. The post where the cable from the solenoid connects had been twisted causing the copper bars to contact the cable for the opposite pole brushes... We rebent the copper bar, but one joint had come unsoldered, so at this point we are figuring out if there is someone local that can rebuild the starter or if we have to find a new one. Will be next week at the soonest to work on it again, as my dad is going on vacay.....

Now we're getting closer: put in the rebuilt starter. Spins without engaging flywheel. Pull starter back out, discover that the bendix on it is complete opposite direction than the original. WTF? Replace with bendix from original starter. Put gas in carb, hit starter, fires up right away. Runs awesome for 30 seconds then my dad tells me to kill it, spitting gas all over engine from fuel pump. Turns out that the threads on the brass fitting for the fuel line to the carb are stripped.

So this week, once we get the fuel line replaced, we should be in business! Ready to set timing and everything.
