Exhaust Questions (Headers, Y-Pipe, Cat, etc.)
#16
Guys, guys, guys... I don't mean to be rude, but this thread is getting way off topic here. I'm not here to find out if long tubes will work or why they won't work after doing my SAS. I already know they won't and I already know why. (Actually Conanski, you were the first one to tell me the wouldn't work and why. Would you like me to post a link to the thread from last year?)
I am here to find out about shorty headers, in particular OBX Racing stainless steel shorties. Are they any good? Anyone used them?
I also want to know about the different brands of Y-pipes and cats avalible and anyones experience with them. Which ones fit good, have good flow etc.?
That's what I really wanna know...

My previous comment was not directed towards Evan_P since he is the only one who actually replied with a comment directly related to my original post.

As for the Magnaflow Y-pipe, I like it and it is within my budget, but I have heard of people having fitment issues with it. Just wondering if that was a common problem with them?

Yeah exhaust shop is where it's at. What doesn't fit is the pipe THEY give you to bolt up with your stock system. It's all super nice piping but muffler shop pipe should be just fine too and won't cost as much. Some aftermarket companies use like aircraft metal for their pipes but honestly who cares if it's the nicest metal available. Then the muffler shop can weld it all together for you so there will be no leaks.

FWIW… OBX sells a ton of exhaust stuff to the Miata world… when I was an active member on one of those Miata forums I heard good reports on the OBX headers and exhaust products.
I had a Magnaflow exhaust on the Miata we own and it was also very well made… I just replaced it this summer with a stock system since I couldn't afford another $500.00 system.

If this were a running, driving truck we were talking about then I would have already taken it there. But it's not running or drivable yet so taking it to a shop would require trailering it there and back. I need to get the front part of the exhaust done so I can be closer to having it running, then I'll take it to the muffler shop to get it finished out.
