Finally Put a Load on the F350

I have a 94 NA F350 4x4 and I hauled 230 gallons of water to my property this week which is 1,840 lb plus the poly drums. This is in addition to the usual 300 lbs of tools and my small 200 lb frame.

The truck did not even sit down on the springs. The rear axle no longer twisted up on the worn out bushing so the u joint vibration on start up went a way. I would like to say the ride was smoother but it is still stiff. Stops slightly slower and still holds OD in the Texas Hill Country. The most noticeable thing is it really picks up speed going down hill.

With 2000 lb in the back this truck finally makes sense. With more weight or a trailer it is got to make you smile.

I know what you mean, I can put a load of wood in the back plus my tools and gear, put a trailer behind it and it's just starting to touch the overloads.

Wow! I didn't realize my 250 Gallon poly tank filled with water was almost 2000lbs. I have it in the back of my 89 F250 and the back end sits a little lower but barely noticed it driving. I wondered why the tires left indents in the lawn. Now I know why.

I recently hauled 200 gallons of vegetable oil plus a good 800+lbs of additional weight in my 4dr f350 and it handles the weight well. Slight compression on the rear leafs, good handling, load feels solid in the truck unlike my dads chevy that feels like it will flip with any load in the bed.

I love how fords can handle weight and be solid going down the road.

At 8 lb per gallon, 220 gallons of water is roughly equal to the rated max payload of the average 1/2 ton truck, legally that would not allow for non essentials like the driver, fuel, or coffee. Many of have overloaded a 1/2 but it gets scary.

I wish the guy would have had 6 barrels for sale. Now I am wondering if another 110 gallons would improve the ride.

I had 2500lbs of wood pellets in the back of my old 83 F-100, the wheel bearings had to be replaced shortly after. It's nice having a truck now that can handle the load.

Here she is with 220 gallons of water, fuel, metal roofing, pipe, tools, and my youngest helper Jared. Tired to get a picture on level ground but the light was bad everywhere.

I had it 4 months. She is a 20 feet truck. Hand spray paint here and there and the bed is not aligned, even got a salvage title. I bought it for a farm truck and she is perfect for that. Throw stuff in the back and run over small trees.

I have been running her 80 miles back and forth to the property but eventually she will just live on the farm.
