So I am rebuilding my 7.3 psd and needed some advice. My timing cover has some light scoring where the oil pump geroter rides. I would say .010" off the cover would clean it up maybe less? So has anyone ever attempted this or can it be done?
I have to see the cover, but assuming you could clamp it flat to a Bridgeport table, I see no reason you couldn't use a fly cutter and take .010 off. The front seal will ride .010 back from the original spot...that ain't much.
That's what I was thinking. The only worry I have is the oil ports in the cover as I recall are tapered so I think they would grow as material is removed but would that effect oil pressure?? I was hoping not to be the guinea pig on this project but that's kind of the way its looking!
No pics, at for a couple days it is getting hot tanked at the machine shop with the block, sorry. here is a front cover not mine, though this is where I am talking about removing the material. Mine is scored in the metal ribs between the elongated holes, where they all get scored. This is my first attempt at posting a pic so hopefully I got it.
That's what I'm thinking. I cant see a problem with it? I just am not quite sure enough to bet my new engine on it!!! Even if it did no harm to the engine I don't want to have to pull it again!
