Wiring Questions

I looked at all of the diagrams before posting too.

So I am putting the wiring harness back in my 1968 4x4 and I took notes, labeled and made drawings for most of it. The only things not connected up are the wires that go through the firewall for the headlights on the left, the headlight bundle on the right, and the heater which I can identify by the two T shaped plugs.

On the harness just behind the wiper switch is a
Green/Yellow - Courtesy lamp switch which I don't have in my truck
Brown with the black push on connector - What is this one for?

Out of the Instrument Cluster Plug
Blue - has a 1" or so white plastic male connector - What is this for? I don't see the female part of the connector on the harness.
Blue - has the black push on female type connector - What is this for?
2 Blue/Red wires into 1 black push on female connector - I think these are for heater control illumination, but the diagram shows it also going to the lighter?

4 wire flat connector
Pink - Coil?
White/Red - Oil Pressure?
Red/White - Water Temp?
Brown - Not sure what this one is for

I suppose that it would have helped to have all of the components in the truck as I was trying to do this too.

This goes to the back of the instrument panel

Blue - has the black push on female type connector - What is this for?

2 Blue/Red wires into 1 black push on female connector - I think these are for heater control illumination, but the diagram shows it also going to the lighter?
Goes to the heater to light it up

3 wire flat connector
Pink - Is tied to the brown for the coil
White/Red - Oil Pressure?
Red/White - Water Temp?

Still not sure where the Brown or Blue goes. I guess I will figure that out if I see something isn't working.

I believe blue is for a cigarette lighter. And brown just an extra wire tap.

There's a Blue/Red stripe wire that goes to the little bulb on top of the Cigar Lighter and to the Heater Control illumination. This wire is controlled by your dash (Instrument) light dimmer in the Headlight switch.

The power wire for the Lighter itself is probably a Blue/White stripe wire with a female connector on the end. Check your "blue wire" for a White stripe. If it doesn't have a White stripe, there should be a fuse in the bottom left corner of the fuse box, just above the screw that holds the fuse box to the firewall, the fuse should be marked "Dome & Cigar". Check the female connector on the blue wire for power, then pull this fuse and check to see if you still have power in the blue wire. If not, then this should be the wire for your Cigar Lighter.

The Pink wire is for the Ignition Coil. It is a resistor wire.

The Brown wire, if it's the one I'm thinking of, goes to the Starter Relay.

The White/Red stripe wire is for the Oil sending unit.

The Red/White stripe wire is for the Temp sending unit.

I have the Blue White to the back center, but there is no little bulb on the top for the Blue Red. I am going to take another look and some pictures.

After looking at the connector again, its a 3 wire flat connector. The Brown and Pink are together.

The White/Red stripe wire is for the Oil sending unit.

The Red/White stripe wire is for the Temp sending unit.

I see it now. Cripes! I can look and look and look and it don't make sense. Look again and it stands right out.
There is a Red Green on the + side of the coil that goes to this connector and gets split by the Pink and Brown together - Pink goes to ignition switch and Brown goes over to the Solenoid,

Here is both sides of the outer shell. There is no tab or bulb on this for a 2nd wire.

Those slots are where the bulb's socket would clip on to the shell (retainer).

Well, it turns out that the Dennis Carpenter kit (Item # D3TZ-15A044-A) is a match for the Bumps. It says it's for a '73 Bronco, but it matches my other ***** and bezels.

Also, I was very happy to discover the blue-white wire with the connector tucked up in the bundle of wires under my dash. So installation was about as easy as one could imagine.

So is it just a bulb to light the socket when the lighter is not plugged in to it?

If that is the case, I think that I can live without it.

Yup, it is just designed to light up the hole so you can find it in the dark to put the lighter back in.
