2015 F350 DRW 6.7 Diesel Towing

I am picking up the truck tomorrow. When I put in the VIN in the VIN Decoder on this site it is saying the maximum towing weight is 12,200 lbs. The reason I went with the 2015 was the advertised towing capacity. The sticker says it has the tow package and the gooseneck/5th wheel prep package so I thought I was good with the new higher tow rating. Could the VIN Decoder be wrong? I looked at the specs on the Ford website and it says 19k towing.....

Any ideas would be appreciated. I have a 2004 F350 DRW with the 6.0. I love that vehicle but picked up a new trailer that with it loaded is close to the tow capacity which is why the change.

Thanks

Hi ib, welcome to FTE!

Not sure which VIN decoder you're using, but it's most definitely not going to be more accurate than the manufacturer specs. Yes, the VIN decoder is wrong.

Your truck is rated for 19,000 lbs, you picked the right one.

Thank you Tom!! I really appreciate it. I know it was a stupid question but I thought maybe the VIN decoder was telling me I didn't look at the truck close enough.

This is a great forum and have learned a ton of information from here.

It might only be thinking off the receiver, not the gooseneck.

Congrats!

Nope, not even that. The 172" WB DRW trucks get an 18,500 lb hitch, and the shorter wheelbase models get a 15,000 lb hitch. But all of the DRW diesel trucks regardless of wheelbase are rated to 19,000 lbs conventional towing.

The odd thing is, the only 5th wheel hitch you could order with a 2011 irregardless of model or engine was a 25k.
